Release Planning

There is an art to Release Planning in XP, and this activity is focused on teaching that art. We supply over 25 story cards for a mock project, and the task is to play the Planning Game to produce a Release Plan for the mock project. We can also cater to real projects, both in the workshop and on-site.

Participants play the role of Customers or Programmers, who will negotiate scope, estimate cards and ultimately choose what goes into the first Release Plan. Following the simulation, we discuss typical Release Planning pitfalls and best practices.

This activity gets the process of Release Planning started for a real project. The workshop coaches facilitate XP's Planning Game with a real project's customers and programmers. At the conclusion of the activity, everyone will have a better understanding of release planning, and the whole team will have their first release plan.

One of our coaches will help your team produce its release plan by assisting with the authoring of stories and facilitating the Release Planning game. We will spend 2-3 days working with the team at your workplace, assuming availability of XP customers.
